meet the Doctor
Dr. Raper grew up in Warm Springs, Georgia where his father was head of internal medicine at the Warm Springs Foundation. He attended Emory University as an undergraduate and graduated from the Emory University School of Dentistry. Upon graduation he joined the Navy Dental Corps serving three years which included sea duty upon the carrier, USS HORNET. After active duty he returned to Atlanta and began private practice. He continued serving in the Naval Reserves attaining the rank of Captain.
Dr. Raper is a member of the American Dental Association, The Georgia Dental Association, The Northern District Dental Society, Hinman Dental Society, and Academy of General Dentistry. He served for many years on the Legislative Committee of the Georgia Dental Association and became its’ Chairman as well as serving on the Executive Committee of the Northern District Dental Society. Dr. Raper is one of only 10% of dentists worldwide inducted into the honorary International College of Dentists and has also been selected as an Honorable Fellow by the Georgia Dental Association. Atlanta Magazine selected him as a “Top Dentist” in 2009 and 2010.
Dr. Raper is committed to community. He was appointed by the governor to the Little White House Museum Board where he is currently serving. He has served as hut master for Boy Scout Troop #232, on the board Historic Oakland Cemetery and is a member of St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church.
Dr. Raper’s interests and passions are broad. He continues to run in the Peachtree Road Race every year. A talented photographer, he enjoys photographing sweeping vistas and steam trains. He was an early member of the Atlanta Ski Club and he maintains that skiing passion today. Dr. Raper is an FDR historian and also enjoys maintaining his vintage 1956 Cadillac.
Dr. Raper and Cathy have two children, Stuart who is pursuing a career in music promotion in New Orleans and a daughter, Pepper, who recently graduated from college. |
